WW1 Microfiction Competition Shortlist

We are delighted to announce our shortlist. It has been excruciatingly difficult to reach a decision, which is a testament to the strength and quality of the micro fictions we received. Each of our six judges read every story that was submitted, and narrowing the list down to only eight titles was a daunting but ultimately rewarding task.

Starting tomorrow, we will begin publishing our highly commended and prize-winning entries, culminating on the 11th of November with the winning micro and a judges’ report in which we discuss the stories on the short-list, as well as some editors’ choices that didn’t make the final cut.

If your piece is on the shortlist, you are welcome to share the news, but please do not identify your name with the title of your piece.

  • At Turtucaia, 1916, Voicu Thinks About His Eight-Year-Old Brother, Titi
  • Casus Belli
  • Collect Your Dead
  • How to sacrifice your life in the line of duty and still go uncommemorated on war memorials
  • Life After Death
  • Ogdens
  • Plum Jam
  • Potato Masher

Congratulations to everyone on the shortlist, and thank you to everyone who sent us such wonderful words.
