WWI Microfiction Competition Update

poppy

Thank you to all the writers who submitted work for our first microfiction competition, and to everyone who spread the word about the contest!

The number of entries, range of themes, and quality of writing was staggering, and we received work from all around the world, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Catalonia, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland and the United States, as well as all over the United Kingdom.

It is an honour and privilege to read your words. Our panel of six judges have all had a first few reads, and are now settling in for the difficult process of compiling the shortlist. There is no time to spare as we’ll begin publishing our highly commended selections and prize-winners later this week, culminating with the publication of the winning piece on the 11th of November, 2018.

Finally, we’d like to say a special thank you to all the writers who donated to FlashBack Fiction as part of this competition. With your help, we have raised enough to cover prizes for our next microfiction competition, which we’ll announce in 2019. Your support means that we will be able to offer a free entry to every writer who would like to participate next time. Thank you so much for making this happen.
